Mashimbyi, who has also had coaching experience in the South African domestic circuit as well as the SA20 franchise league, has been named head coach of Proteas Women ahead of their third T20I against England on Saturday.
The 44-year-old will take over the gig from Dillon du Preez, who had been the interim coach of the team since May, and had been part of the dressing room that made it to their second successive T20 World Cup Final back in October.
Speaking on his appointment, Mashimbyi said, “I am fully cognizant of the significant responsibilities and expectations associated with this esteemed position.
“At this juncture, I am deeply appreciative of the opportunity to contribute my expertise and knowledge to the Proteas Women’s continued success and to elevate their standing as a formidable force in world cricket.”
