Diwali: Odisha Pollution Board Issues Guidelines For Crackers Bursting

Bhubaneswar, Oct 29: The State Pollution Control Board of Odisha has issued advisory guidelines for bursting of firecrackers ahead of Diwali.
In the advisory the State Pollution Control Board said, “Celebrate Deepavali by burning Diyas only and limit bursting of fire crackers between 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. only. Also avoid bursting of series fire crackers and crackers generating a peak noise level of 125 dBA.”

Fire crackers should not be burst near gardens/parks, in silence zone such as areas comprising 100 meters around hospitals, educational institutions, courts, religion places and etc as declared by the competent authority, as per the guideline.

“Only green fire crackers are allowed in open areas. Avoid using fire crackers near slum and structures that are easily flammable on road and busy traffic. . Children below 10 years are not allowed to burst sound generating fire crackers,” State Pollution Control Board said.

The board also asked people to wear cotton cloths while bursting firecrackers.

It may be noted that the Supreme Court has also banned production and sale of crackers except green crackers. Uses of Barium and banned chemicals in fire crackers have also been prohibited.
