Devotees Bid Adieu To Maa Durga

Curtain came down on the four-day Durga puja festivities in Bhubaneswar and other parts of the county on Wednesday with the immersion of the idols of Goddess Durga.

Several devotees and organisers were Saturday seen taking the goddess idols from their pandals to immersion sites and mark the end of the festival season. Several small scale panda! idols were immersed in the early hours of the day while late in the evening big idols were led for the procession.

A number of idol immersion this year witnessed eco-friendly disposal as they thronged the special immersion sites carved out by the government to ensure an alternative ways to avert the damages caused to free flowing rivers due to rampant immersion of idols into it.

Several idols were immersed at special immersion sites near Kuakhai river, Daya river and Tankapani road constructed by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).

On the auspicious occasion of Vijaya Dashmi, the Bengali community in the city gathered to bid a heartfelt farewell to Goddess Durga, on Tuesday.

Married women dressed in traditional red and white sarees participated in the ritual of Sindoor Khela in afternoon.

The women playfully engaged in age-old custom of smearing each other with sindoor, fostering a sense of sisterhood and community spirit.
