Koraput, Feb 1: A special lecture on “Entrepreneurship and Employability: Career Prospects in Studying Economics” was organized by the Department of Economics, Central University of Odisha (CUO) at the Department of Economics, Sunabeda.
Prof. Mrutyunjay Swain, Professor, HOD, Department of Economics, Berhampur University was the distinguished speaker for the Programme.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chakradhar Tripathy conveyed their wishes for the Programme. The program was started with Dr. Minati Sahoo, HOD, Department of Economics, delivering the welcome address and introduction of the guest & topic.
Prof Swain started his lecture with the famous quote by Swami Vivekananda: “Take Risks in Your Life. If you win, you can Lead! If you lose, you can Guide!” and has very well justified the topic by highlighting various types of entrepreneurship sectors and employability skills required for it.
He has discussed communication skills, teamwork and collaboration, problem-solving and critical thinking, adaptability and flexibility, leadership, digital literacy, work ethics, experimentation and much more required for an economist in various sectors. He also drew attention to the importance of intelligence, emotional, spiritual, and life and networking skills. Then he discussed the key employment sectors, namely the private sector, government sector, academia and research, international organizations, banking and finance and development sector.
Then he discussed the various job options after an M.A. in Economics catering to the requirements of the audience like Data Analysts, Banking services, Civil Services, Indian Economic Service, RBI Grade B officer, SEBI officer, Odisha Civil Service, Teaching and Research (NET, JRF, PhD, Post Doc), etc. He concluded his lecture by motivating the students to have a strong will and have their own ways towards success.
There was a healthy and productive interaction session among the resource person and the participants. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Prasant Kumar Behera, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Economics, CUO. The program was attended by faculty members, students, and research scholars from different departments.
