Received  ‘Emergency Alert’? Here’s What Does Notification Mean

Mobile phone users in Odisha on Wednesday noon received an “Emergency Alert” sent by the department of telecommunication (DoT) of the Centre.

The emergency  message has been sent as a part to enhance emergency communication during disasters.

“This is a SAMPLE TESTING MESSAGE sent through Cell Broadcasting System by Department of Telecommunication, Government of India. Please ignore this message as no action is required from your end. This message has been sent to test Pan India Emergency Alert System being implemented by National Disaster Management Authority. It aims to enhance public safety and provide timely alerts during emergencies. Timestamp: 25-10-2023 12:02 PM,” reads the message.

Emergency Alert was delivered in English and Odia languages.

This initiative was launched by the Central government in July this year.

It may be noted that the DoT in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) announced the implementation of the Cell Broadcast Alert System.

The system aims to deliver real-time alerts to citizens during disasters.
