Odisha Govt Increases Variable Dearness Allowance

The Naveen Patnaik government in Odisha has increased the variable dearness allowance (VDA) for all categories of employees by Rs 7 a day.

According to a notification by the Labour Commissioner, the new wage rates will be effective from October 1, 2023.

The VDA shall now be paid at Rs 7 per day to all categories of employees in all 89 scheduled employments from October 1, 2023.

With the hike in the VDA, the minimum wage for unskilled workers will be Rs 352/day while it will be Rs 392 for semi-skilled workers, Rs 442 for skilled workers, and Rs 502 for highly skilled workers.

The Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) @ Rs. 7.00 per day (after rounding off) shall be payable to the unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled and highly skilled categories of employees in all 89 scheduled employments (list enclosed in the Schedule) w.e.f. 1st October, 2023 in addition to the minimum rate of wages notified vide the aforesaid Notification of Government in Labour & ESI Department, Odisha,” read the notification.
