PM Modi, Dharmendra Pradhan Express Grief Over Passing Away Of Gita Mehta

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday expressed deep condolences over the passing away of noted writer and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s sister, Gita Mehta.

“I am saddened by the passing away of noted writer Smt. Gita Mehta Ji. She was a multifaceted personality, known for her intellect and passion towards writing as well as film making. She was also passionate about nature and water conservation. My thoughts are with @Naveen_Odisha Ji and the entire family in this hour of grief. Om Shanti,” PM Modi said on X.

“Saddened to hear about the passing away of Gita Mehta ji, a prominent author. This is a major loss to the literary and cultural world. Sincere condolences to Hon. CM Odisha and family. Pray to Almighty to give strength to his family and friends to bear this loss. Om Shanti,” Union Minister Pradhan said.

According to reports, Gita Mehta breathed her last in New Delhi on Saturday ( September 16). She was daughter of legendary leader and former CM Biju Patnaik.

Daughter of legendary Biju Patnaik and eminent author, documentary film maker, and journalist Geeta Mehta today passed away in Delhi.

She happens to be the elder sister of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. She was married to renowned American publisher late Sonny Mehta.

Born in 1943 to Biju and Gyan Patnaik in Delhi, she had her education in India and University of Cambridge UK. 

She had penned three books Karma Cola,Snake and ladders , A River Sutra,  Raj and The Eternal Ganesha.
